Purchased by Khalid Abdullah for 0,000 in Kentucky, Dancing Brave became one of the greatest racehorses of all time, a unique and brilliant horse, who proved himself over four Group 1 events, over three different distances. After winning twice as a two-year-old in 1985, Dancing Brave opened his three-year- old account with victory in the Craven Stakes, a stepping-stone to the 2,000 Guineas which he won in imperious style. Next on the agenda was the now infamous 1986 Derby. Many thought he lacked the stamina required to see out Epsom’s testing 1 mile 4 furlongs and his jockey Greville Starkey rode him with restraint – so much so that he was almost last entering the home straight. Dancing Brave then sprouted wings and tore through the field beating all bar one to finish second to Shahrastani, half a length down. Clearly the best horse in the race had lost and Starkey was widely criticised. Although he kept the ride in the Eclipse success, Pat Eddery was on board for the King George victory and took the ride for the scene of his most famous and scintillating victory, the 1986 Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe. Although his career finished with defeat at the Breeder’s Cup, Dancing Brave will be forever remembered for his tremendous versatility and his astonishing power of acceleration. Narrated by Albert Finney.
